My Entrepreneurial Journey
My entrepreneurial journey began in Alberta in 1968. It was a time of immense opportunity for those willing to take risks, and my husband and I seized the moment by starting a small family-owned manufacturing company. This first venture was a foundational experience in the realities of business ownership—learning to build from the ground up while navigating a rapidly growing economy.
However, that journey took an unexpected turn when we became victims of bookkeeper fraud. The realization of how vulnerable a business can be without proper financial oversight was a turning point for me. Rather than stepping back, I decided to take control by becoming an accountant. This transformation from business owner to financial professional was driven by a need for security and a deep desire to understand the mechanics of success.
My new expertise allowed us to expand our presence, moving to Vancouver and eventually growing our operations into Edmonton and Saskatoon. Balancing the demands of raising two children and studying was incredibly challenging, but it fostered a level of perseverance that has defined my career. These experiences taught me that adversity is often the catalyst for expansion and that curiosity—coupled with a commitment to lifelong learning—is the true engine of professional growth.
